Hen party films – after all, who doesn’t want to watch some heart-warming, romantic and funny films on a bad day, with her girlfriends, or whilst getting ready for the big day? Whilst the hen party film genre may not produce the kind of unforgettable, timeless masterpieces that remain etched in our memories and leave a lasting mark on the film industry, these films are undoubtedly entertaining, charming and tackle a very popular theme!
In the following, we will be presenting both well-known and lesser-known films on this subject!
How do we survive a hen party?-How to Survive a Break-up (2015)
It’s a Spanish comedy which, although based on an American story, still has that little extra something that’s so typical of the Spanish! The director is Manuela Burló, who was previously best known as an actress. visit Apex Legends game, but as it turns out, this new role suits her very well too, and she has no trouble pulling off a delightful hen party film!
The story begins with the bride’s friends wanting to organise a wild hen do, so they pool all their money and fly off to the Canary Islands to have a massive party with the bride! So far, so good, but as is usually the case with hen party films, things don’t go entirely to plan here either!
Huge parties, Spanish humour, a chaotic journey! This light-hearted comedy is well worth a watch!
Hen party-The Bachelorette (2012)
The film’s main character, Becky, is getting ready for her wedding! Becky is determined to have a hen party, so she tells her friends from secondary school to get ready for the occasion. The friends have mixed feelings about the hen party and the whole wedding. Regan tries to hide it, but she’s actually a bit upset because she isn’t the first to get married. Gena tries to hide her feelings behind her ironic manner, but she’s actually a romantic at heart who longs for a relationship. As for Katie, she’s just enjoying life and partying hard! Becky isn’t planning a big party, but things don’t quite go according to plan.
The comedy is built around the development of friendships and characters, and presents all this with plenty of humour.
Best Night Ever (2013)
This hen party film is perhaps little known to Hungarian audiences, as it was not shown in cinemas here; however, it was a hit with international audiences.
Claire, the bride-to-be, her sister Leslie, her funny friend Zoe, and Janet, who has just joined the group, head to Las Vegas to celebrate Claire’s hen night. The evening soon turns into a series of unexpected events. The girls do everything they can to have a good night out, but their half-hearted attempts only land them in increasingly wild situations.
The film, incidentally, consists largely of handheld footage, which gives us the feeling that we, too, are there with the girls, taking part in their strange and scandalous, but by no means boring, adventures.
Bridesmaids-Bridesmaids (2017)
One of the most successful hen party films of recent years. The director is Paul Feig, to whom we owe a whole host of girls’ comedies in recent times, including *Spy*, *The Heat* and *Ghostbusters*.
The film depicts wedding planning and the complications leading up to the wedding. The story begins when the bride’s two best friends meet; one of them has long since taken on this role, whilst the other has only recently done so. The rivalry between the two forms the basis of the comedy. This escalates to the point where the bride ends up bearing the brunt of the situation.
The film is full of situational comedy – it’s a really funny film with a great atmosphere! The leading roles are played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Maya Rudolph!
Girls Trip (2017)
It doesn’t strictly fall into the category of hen night films, but we’d still include it here because of its atmosphere!
Even though none of them are planning a wedding, four old friends – who first met during their university days and whose lives have since taken different paths – meet up again to let their hair down a bit! They decide to go to the Essence Festival in New Orleans. The film is a bit different from the usual girls’ comedies; it really pushes the boundaries, yet it’s incredibly entertaining! What’s more, the cast is nothing to be sniffed at, with Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish in the lead roles!
Girls until dawn–Rough night (2017) and the Ronda case–Very bad things (1998)
It’s worth mentioning these two films together, as one of the latest hen party films is actually a remake of the 1998 film *The Ronda Affair*! The main difference is that, whilst the girls take centre stage here, the original version follows the „very similar” adventures of a group of men on a stag do.
In *Girls Till Dawn*, five women set off to have a wild night out, but as always, things don’t go quite as planned – in fact, they accidentally end up killing a male dancer! Of course, as you might expect, they don’t report the incident to the police, but try to sort the situation out themselves – they want to get rid of the body!
A light-hearted comedy, perfect for a hen do, and it even includes some useful „tips” on the things we should absolutely avoid doing at our own hen do!
It’s also worth watching the original version, *The Ronda Case*; as we’ve already mentioned, the core of the story is the same, except that the main characters are men, and the film is characterised more by black humour!
Now that we’ve mentioned the Ronda case, let’s have a look at a few films about stag parties too!
Stag party-Stag party (1984)
An early film starring Tom Hanks, from a time when the stag party hadn’t yet become a specific genre in the film industry. As well as depicting the groom’s extremely wild stag do, the film also offers a glimpse into his fiancée’s equally wild hen do!
Hangovers- Hangover (2009)
One of the classics of modern cinema on this subject!
The film approaches the topic of stag parties from a new angle! The focus isn’t on the stag party itself, but on the day after, when – following a dreadful wake-up – it turns out that the groom has disappeared, nobody can remember a thing, there’s a tiger in the hotel suite, one of the main characters is missing a tooth, and a baby has even joined the group! The three main characters try to track down the groom, find the child’s mother and the tiger’s owner, whilst, all the while, the intriguing events of the previous evening are gradually revealed!
The film has now become a trilogy, and the next two instalments are just as funny – they’re well worth watching too!

A truly sweet comedy: Suddenly 30- 13 Going on 30 (2004)
Jenna is 13 years old and not exactly popular; she has one true friend, Matt, the boy next door, but she craves the attention of the cooler boys and girls. So, for her birthday, she invites the popular pupils from school. The party, however, turns out to be a complete disaster; it turns out that most of them only came to make fun of her. Ashamed, she vows that if she were an adult, she’d have a brilliant life! The next morning, she wakes up to find she’s 30 years old, with a great job, a flat and a boyfriend! Her best friend is an old classmate who used to be the coolest girl in school. At first, Jenna really likes this life, but after a while, details from her past start to emerge one after another, making her wonder whether this dream life is really worth it.
If you’re in the mood for an old film: A dream come true in a luxury version –Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
Holly is a regular visitor to the shop window of a luxury jewellery shop. Whilst there, she’s always nibbling on her breakfast and reflecting on her life. At the age of 19, she left her hometown and her husband in the hope of a better life! She succeeded in this, conquering New York’s high society; she is fashionable and parties a lot. So far, so good, but emotions get in the way: Holly falls for a writer who doesn’t fit the picture at all, as he is poor and doesn’t live in the world to which Holly so much wants to belong!
If we want an answer to an age-old question! – Harry and Sally –When Harry Met Sally (1989)
The film’s central premise is an age-old question: can there be friendship between a man and a woman? The two main characters, Harry and Sally, both believe there cannot be, and they discuss this when they first meet. As fate would have it, this encounter is followed by many more. Years later, they talk about what a good relationship they have, and then, after further years have passed, about the disappointments they have faced. Meanwhile, their best friends get married, so part of their social circle becomes shared, and the question that once seemed so clear-cut begins to be called into question!
